Why Flexibility Might Be the Most Underrated Business Strategy
The one piece of advice I’d offer to any entrepreneur?
Give yourself the gift of flexibility.
I don’t mean chaos or a lack of systems. I mean true, thoughtful flexibility — the ability to adapt your business around your real, evolving life instead of squeezing your life into a rigid business plan.
This became especially clear when I became a mom and an entrepreneur within the same chapter of life.
I learned quickly: what worked three months ago likely won’t work today.
Kids grow. Schedules change. Our energy shifts. And if we try to confine ourselves to a version of productivity that doesn’t serve our current reality, we don’t just feel overwhelmed — we feel resentful.
If I had forced myself, my family, or my business partner to operate under the same rigid routine I had pre-kids, I don’t know that we’d still be running a business. Because it wouldn’t be sustainable. It wouldn’t be real.
FLEXIBILITY VS. LACK OF STRUCTURE
Let’s clear this up:
Flexibility doesn’t mean tossing out all structure. It means building a business that can evolve as you do.
Some seasons, Britt and I are all-in: ideas flying, calendars packed, momentum building. And we love those seasons.
But there are other seasons when our energy pulls us elsewhere — toward family, toward friendships, or toward our own healing and rest.
Instead of pushing through, we pivot. We allow for micro-adjustments. And we’ve built a business model that supports that.
It’s not accidental. It’s intentional flexibility.
THE POWER OF SEASONS
If you're a parent, you know this truth well:
Every time you finally crack the code on a routine, your child changes. Sleep patterns shift. Nap times disappear. Interests evolve.
We go through that same cycle in business.
Instead of seeing change as a threat, we’ve learned to see it as an invitation — a reminder that we are meant to evolve. That our goals, roles, and routines should shift.
Being flexible has allowed us to grow without friction. It’s helped us avoid the burnout that comes from constantly forcing ourselves to be in “go” mode, even when we know we need to pause or pivot.
STRUCTURE STILL MATTERS
Now, I won’t pretend I don’t benefit from structure. Britt has taught me the power of systems, boundaries, and strategic planning. That structure grounds our business.
But flexibility frees it.
It’s the dance between the two — structure and softness — that has allowed us to run a sustainable, joyful business, even as life continues to move in unexpected ways.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR YOU
Whether you’re a solo founder or leading a team…
Whether you’re in a season of hustle or a season of healing…
Whether you’re raising babies or raising capital…
You deserve a business that bends with your life — not one that breaks you down.
Flexibility is the key to longevity.
It helps you stay connected to your values, your health, and your purpose.
Because the goal was never to be busy. The goal was to build something that supports the life you want.
So here’s your permission to shift. To pause. To reimagine.
And to trust that evolution doesn’t mean failure — it means growth.
